Darul Ummah Community Centre Hosted Reception & Dinner in Honour of All Elected Councillors and Members of Parliament for London Borough of Tower Hamlets

More than 100 people from the local community gathered to give a heartfelt reception & welcome to newly elected Local Councillors from all political parties & Members of Parliament on Sunday 30 May 2010 at 6 pm organised by Da'watul Islam UK & Eire and Darul Ummah Community Centre. In attendance were re-elected Member of Parliament representing Poplar & Limehouse Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP, Leader of the Council Cllr Helal Uddin Abbas, Mayor of Tower Hamlets Cllr Motin uz-Zaman, Ex-Council Leader Cllr Lutfur Rahman, Cllr Stephanie Eaton - Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, Cllr Harun Miah - Respect Party, Ex-Cllr Ahmad Hussain representing Cllr Tim Archer - Conservative and other councillors made the Reception a hugely successful one. Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP thanked Da'watul Islam UK & Eire for organising this wonderful reception and dinner. In his speech, Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP made a distinct remark by speaking both in English & Sylheti language, which was greatly appreciated by the audience. He said "I was with you in your sorrows & happiness and I will be with you in future as well". He praised the Pioneering new development Darul Ummah Community Centre which constitutes a 8 storied purpose built building with 3 basement floors serving the community by providing women-focused services, employment projects, youth projects, gymnasium, purpose built Multi-Purpose Hall, Educational Projects and he gave his full support for the project. 

Cllr Stephanie Eaton from Bethnal Green & North ward admired the Darul Ummah Development Project for its services for women - Employment Project, Crèche Facilities, designated Women only Area, which will flourish the local women community. She pledged her full support for this fantastic community based project.  Cllr Harun Miah from Shadwell and Ex-Councillor Ahmad Hussain representing Cllr Tim Archer & Conservative Party were delighted to see the different aspects of this Project and also lend their hands for the total support for this project. 

Tower Hamlets Mayor Cllr Motin uz-Zaman, Leader of the Council Cllr Helal Uddin Abbas, Ex-Council Leader Cllr Lutfur Rahman all praised Darul Ummah for embarking on a very ambitious project and reiterated the Councils support for the development. They said that the project can give a better service to the community regardless of faith, country or region. All of the Councillors were confirmed to the community that they will work hard for the community and continue to to improve Housing, Crime, services for older people and together build "One Tower Hamlets". Cllr Lutfur Rahman praised and thanked Da'watul Islam & Darul Ummah Centre for always being the first to give a Reception to newly elected Councillors & Members of Parliaments after an Election. 

Sheikh AA Hifzur Rahman - Secretary General of Da'watul Islam UK & Eire, Sheikh Abdur Rahman Madain - Principal of Jamiatul Ummah Secondary School, Nur Baksh - Dawatul Islam Community Welfare Secretary and Khoyrul Shaheed - Assistant Secretary Darul Ummah Mosque talked on behalf of Dawatul Islam UK & Eire and Darul Ummah Centre. 

The reception was co-presented by Shabbir Ahmad Kawsar - Assistant Secretary General Da'watul Islam UK & Eire and Arman Ali - Community Engagement Project of Dawatul Islam. The Reception was started by Hafiz Tariq Nasurallah reciting from the Holy Quran and Abdullah Jafor representing Dawatul Islam Youth Group (DIYG). In the welcome speech, President of Dawatul Islam UK & Eire Sheikh Maulana Moudood Hasan welcomed, congratulated and thanked all the elected Councillors & Member of Parliament Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP for attending the reception. President Hasan took this opportunity to address some of the dire issues of the community. The welcome speech was followed by the Presentation of Darul Ummah New Development Project by the Vice President of Da'watul Islam Hasan Mueenuddin. The audience, councillors & Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP appreciated the project by watching the design of the Purpose Built Centre, which is Community Focused designed to provide State-of-Art 21st Century services. Darul Ummah Centre recieved overwhelming support and encouraging messages from all the speakers & Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP. The Reception was concluded with remarks from Sheikh Hafiz Maulana Shafiqur Rahman, the Senior Vice President of Da'watul Islam UK & Eire. A delicious dinner was served to all.

Home Secretary Visits Shaddywood Crime Reduction Project

The Rt Hon Alan Johnson MP Home Secretary who is one of the four MPs from the Great Offices of State in the United Kingdom, the four most senior and prestigious posts in the British Parliamentary System of Goverment had a historical visit to Darul Ummah Community Centre in Shadwell E1 on Tuesday the 29th April 2010 to meet members of the Shaddywood Crime Reduction Project - a leading, highly effective and reputable crime reduction project based in London, owned by Da'watul Islam UK & Eire - a leading charity organisation.

Other distinguished guests included Tony Shepard, the CEO of the Safer London Foundation and members from the Executive Council of Da'watul Islam UK & Eire, including the President Moudood Hasan, two of the Vice Chairs Shafiqur Rahman and Burhan Uddin, the Treasurer Rezaul Karim, Principal and Trustee Abdur Rahman Madani, SecretaryGeneral Abu Ahmed Hifzur Rahman and the Assistant Secretary General Shabbir Ahmed Kawsar.

The Home Secretary was extremely impressed after speaking to Nurul Ullah the Director and Manager of the Shaddywood Crime Reduction Project of the crucial work, benefits and outstanding achievement of the project in its fight against youth crime.

Opportunity was also taken by Mohammed Siddquy the Project Development Manager to present the new Darul Ummah Redevelopment project, a new dynamic, state-of-the art and fit-for-purpose community centre for all, which the Home Secretary was highly impressed, supported and anticipates the huge benefits it will bring to all the local community of Shadwell which is one of the most deprived wards in the UK.

Shaddywood Crime Reduction Programme

Shaddywood is a unique crime reduction project that has had huge impact in reducing crime in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and has become very popular and reputable through its success in youth engagement and reformation.
